Bulgaria Reluctant to Participate in Emergency Financing for Greece - Deputy PM
Pernik, Southern Bulgaria, July 16 (BTA) - Deputy Prime Minister
Roumyana Buchvarova said here Thursday that the government "is
not positively disposed" to the calls of the European Commission
to EU member states to help Greece start its new three-year
bailout programme. Speaking to reporters, she said that Bulgaria
has not yet announced its position but the direction the
position is taking "is not towards a positive answer".
Тhe European Commission has asked Bulgaria alongside eight
non-euro area countries to contribute through a guarantee to
emergency financing for Greece of nearly 13 billion euro.
"We strictly abide by the EU rules and we believe that countries
such as Bulgaria, which are following the rules despite all
hardships, neither have the resources nor should be expected to
bailout countries which have not observed the rules," said the
Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister.
She said that further discussions are upcoming and the final
decision of Bulgaria will be made public by the Prime Minister.
