site.btaMontenegrin Media: European Union's Strategic Compass Includes Western Balkans

The Western Balkans got a place in the European Union's Strategic Compass, the media in Montenegro report. "Security and stability throughout the Western Balkans is still not a given, also due to increasing foreign interferences, including information manipulation campaigns, as well as through potential spill over from the current deterioration of the European security situation", the document reads.

The Strategic Compass is the EU's future military strategy, notes Analitika portal. Through this strategy, the Member States agree on a common strategic vision on the Union's role in security and defence, and commit to a series of specific actions to achieve these goals in the next five to ten years. The EU should first assess its strategic environment and priorities.

The foreign ministers of the EU Member State green-lit the Strategic Compass  on March 21, and this week's summit is expected to officially approve the document.

Bosnia and Herzegovina and the dialogue between Serbia and Kosovo are specifically mentioned in the document, which reads that " it is of particular interest to support the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, based on the principles of equality and non-discrimination of all citizens and constituent peoples as enshrined in the Bosnia and Herzegovina constitution, as well as the reform process on its European path and to take forward the EU-led Pristina-Belgrade dialogue".

"Tangible progress on the rule of law and reforms based on European values, rules and standards needs to continue and the European perspective is a strategic choice, essential for all partners aspiring to EU membership," the document reads further.
