site.btaUPDATED All Documents Regarding Sofia-Skopje Negotiations Now at Parliamentary Foreign Policy Committee's Disposal
All documents in the negotiation process with the Republic of North Macedonia have been submitted by the Foreign Ministry to the parliamentary Foreign Policy Committee and can be commented publicly, Continue the Change (CC) party said in a press release on Tuesday. Earlier in the day it demanded that outgoing Foreign Minister Teodora Genchovska declassify the said documents, claiming that when they were submitted to the Foreign Policy Committee earlier they were classified for use only by certain people.
Sofia and Skopje have been trying to negotiate a way out of an impasse in bilateral relations after Bulgaria vetoed the start of EU accession talks. On June 15, the Government adopted a decision under which all proposals concerning the Republic of North Macedonia are to be submitted to Parliament for approval.
The documents in question were submitted to the Foreign Policy Committee several days after last week France, which holds the rotating EU Council Presidency until the end of June, made a proposal for breaking the Sofia-Skopje gridlock.
Reacting to CC's earlier position, the Foreign Ministry put out a statement saying that the negotiation documents between Bulgaria and the Republic of North Macedonia are not classified and were submitted to the ordinary secretarial office of Parliament. "Filed in this way, the documents are available for access to all MPs," the position reads.
The parliamentary Foreign Policy Committee is expected to discuss on Wednesday the position of the Foreign Ministry regarding the French proposal.
