The "Yavorov and Macedonia" exhibition will open at the poet’s museum in his native Chirpan on November 3, the museum director, Zlatina Koleva, told BTA. Twenty panels feature photos, documents, publicistic pieces and poems by the revolutionary poet.
Peyo Yavorov was an active figure in the liberation movement of the Bulgarians in Macedonia in the period 1901-1913, perhaps the most distinctive period in the development of the movement, despite the constant internal turmoil and numerous challenges. He was elected the first mayor of the newly liberated towns of Nevrokop, today's Gotse Delchev and Kavala (today in Greece), the museum director recalled.
Macedonia was a major presence in both the poetry and life of Yavorov who dedicated 13 years to the cause of its liberation.
A phototype edition of Yavorov’s Buntoven List handwritten newspaper compiled, redacted and published by Trifon Mitev under the title of Freedom or Death will be presented at the opening of the exhibition. The newspaper, which first appeared in 1903, had 12 issues.
The exhibition will be open to visitors over the next month of December too.
