Bulgaria and Serbia will set up a joint working group to develop transport connectivity between the two countries, said Serbian Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Goran Vesic on Friday after a meeting with Bulgarian caretaker Transport Minister Hristo Aleksiev.

The two conferred in the Serbian city of Pirot, where they discussed the transport connectivity between the two countries. On the agenda were increasing the capacity of railway infrastructure to service more cargo trains and possibly a new rail border crossing between Bulgaria and Serbia.

Goran Vesic said that he will visit Bulgaria in February when the working group starts work in February.

The Serbian Minister thanked Bulgaria for the assistance with the recovery efforts after a train carrying ammonia derailed near Pirot.

"As soon as we requested help, Bulgaria reacted promptly. I want to thank the Bulgarian railmen who worked side by side with their Serbian colleagues," he said.

The Serbian authorities awarded everyone who took part in the cleanup operation, Transport Minister Hristo Aleksiev, Deputy Transport Minister Krassimir Papoukchiiski, National Railway Infrastructure Company Director General Zlatin Krumov, and head of the operation Emil Simeonov.
