site.btaGreece Wildfire Crosses into Bulgaria at Second Location

A total of 311 firemen, servicemen, policemen, hunters and volunteers are trying to extinguish the wildfire on the Bulgarian-Greek border near Mt. Veykata in the territory of Kirkovo Municipality, the Interior Ministry’s Regional Directorate in Kardzhali said in a press release on Tuesday. The fire has been raging for some two weeks now.

Currently, the fire in Kirkovo municipality is under control, said the director of the regional fire service Commissioner Sergei Zaimov, quoted by the Bulgarian National Radio on Saturday. Zaimov added that a helicopter will be unable to join the firefighting efforts on Saturday due to poor weather conditions.

A fire that has been raging in Greece near the border with Bulgaria for some ten days now, has jumped back into Bulgaria in the territory of Kirkovo Municipality, said the local Interior Ministry Directorate Thursday.
