Тhe Bulgarian Association of Catering Establishments and the Union of Catering Establishments in Bulgaria sent out a letter to President Rumen Radev, asking for a meeting to acquaint him with "the many problems facing the catering industry over the past two years." The associations ask Radev for support in their communication with the Government and the responsible institutions for the solving of many of the industry's problems. The letter, received by BTA on Monday, includes a summary of the current difficulties plaguing the sector.
The organizations pointed out that the industry reported up to 80 per cent decrease in turnover after the introduction of the green certificates, and over 35 per cent of employees had left the sector and turned to work in industries that are of lower risk and are not on the front line when new measures are introduced. The associations said that currently the sector can not take advantage of any state aid in practice and noted that the newly introduced support measures function similarly to taking a loan from a bank under unfavorable terms and conditions, sometimes even worse than those of banking institutions. Electricity bills have increased multiple times but state aid is either late or not available, and when it arrives, it is not enough, the letter said.
The associations found it absurd that the National Revenue Agency (NRA) is demanding reimbursement of support funds which were provided according to criteria that the NRA specified itself. They also stressed that the initiated expansion of the green and blue parking zones in the capital will further damage the industry, as a big proportion of catering establishments are located in downtown Sofia.
