site.btaBulgaria Exported USD 848 Mln Worth of Goods to US in 2020 - Transatlantic Economy Report

A new survey from the American Chamber of Commerce to the EU (AmCham EU) and the US Chamber of Commerce reports that the transatlantic trade and investment relationship hit record-breaking numbers in 2021, AmCham Bulgaria said in a press release. The Transatlantic Economy 2022 report shows, similarly to its previous editions, that Bulgaria has stable trade relations and development opportunities. 

Each year, the report presents the findings of an annual survey of jobs, trade and investment between the United States and Europe. In the report’s latest edition, the data for Bulgaria are from 2020, AmCham specifies. 

According to the report, in 2020 US investments in Bulgaria amounted to 608 million dollars, down from 756 million dollars in 2019, and Bulgarian investments in the US stood at 48 million dollars, up from 30 million dollars in 2018. 

Those employed in US companies in Bulgaria numbered 9,653, while 281 worked in Bulgarian companies in the US.

The US exported to Bulgaria goods worth 375 million dollars, supplying 1.3 per cent of Bulgaria’s total imports; this share increases to 3.4 per cent when intra-EU trade is excluded from the total. Bulgaria exported to the US goods worth 848 million dollars, the US thus receiving 2 per cent of the total goods Bulgaria exported to the world; this share increases to 6.2 per cent when intra-EU trade is excluded from the total. 

The top five US goods exports to Bulgaria in 2020 were: machinery manufactures (133.6 million dollars, up from 8.0 million dollars in 2000); computers and electronics (55.3 million dollars, up from 22.6 million dollars in 2000); mining (31.9 million dollars, down from 36.7 million dollars in 2000); transportation equipment (30.4 million dollars, up from 10.4 million dollars in 2000); and electronic equipment, appliances and parts (17.2 million dollars, up from 1.2 million dollars in 2000).

The top five Bulgarian goods exports to the US in 2020 were: computers and electronics (137.9 million dollars, up from 4.6 million dollars in 2000); chemical manufactures (127.3 million dollars, up from 9.4 million dollars in 2000); crop production (95.1 million dollars, up from 17.2 million dollars in 2000); machinery manufactures (85.7 million dollars, up from 6.0 million dollars in 2000); and electronic equipment, appliances and parts (61.1 million dollars, up from 3.8 million dollars in 2000). Before, crop production was not in the top five, while textiles and accessories (86.2 million dollars in 2019) and petrol products (73.4 million dollars in 2019) were.

In 2020, US services exports to Bulgaria amounted to 362 million dollars, up from 354 million dollars in 2019. Bulgaria exported to the US services worth 396 million dollars, up from 303 million dollars in 2019./
