site.btaEU Allocates Mln 3.5 Euro to Member States Taking in Ukrainians, Including Bulgaria

The EU Council said Tuesday that it has approved the disbursement of 3.5 billion euro to member states welcoming Ukrainian refugees, including Bulgaria. The funds will facilitate the provision for basic needs like shelter, education and healthcare.

A total of 3.5 billion euro will be paid out this year as increased initial pre-financing under the Recovery Assistance for Cohesion and the Territories of Europe (REACT-EU) and the Fund for European Aid to the Most Deprived (FEAD).

The countries that share a border with Ukraine and those receiving a larger number of displaced persons, among which Bulgaria, will receive 45 per cent pre-financing from the 2021 tranche of REACT-EU, increased from 11 per cent. The inflow of refugees from Ukraine in these countries amounted to over 1% of the countries' populations (by March 23) at the end of the first month following the Russian invasion.
