site.btaBanks' Profits Up 68.2% in Q1 of 2022, Y/Y

As at March 31, the profit of Bulgaria's banking system stood at 569 million leva, up by 62.8% from the first quarter of 2021, the central bank said. The banking system's assets grew by 3.8 per cent to reach 140.5 billion leva at the end of March 2022. 

The gross loan portfolio of the banking sector increased by 2.8 billion leva (3.6%) to 78.6 billion leva. Lending to non-financial corporations went up by 1.8 billion leva (4.5%), to households by 892 million leva (3%), and to other financial corporations by 70 million leva (1.4%). Loans to the state governance sector dropped by 15 million leva (1.6%).

The gross amount of non-performing loans and advances was 4,832 billion leva at end-March 2022, compared to 4,969 billion leva at end-December 2021. 

Deposits in the banking sector increased by 4.3 billion leva (3.7%) in the first quarter of this year to reach 119.7 billion leva. A rise was observed in the deposits of: non-financial corporations by 2.2 billion leva (6.5%), other financial corporations by 766 million leva (19.9%), households by 664 million leva (1.0%), credit institutions by 341 million leva (5.6%), and the state governance sector by 294 million leva (9.7%).
