site.btaBusinesses Urge for Measures against Further Nat Gas Appreciation

The Bulgarian Federation of Industrial Energy Consumers has urged the government to take measures to prevent a further increase in the price of natural gas in a statement circulated on Monday.

The Federation suggests a temporary ceiling on the price of natural gas and compensation to cover the difference.

The Federation voices concern at the situation when on April 27 Gazprom halted gas supplies for Bulgaria, calling clarity in connection with the security of gas supplies.

The Bulgarian industry can't tolerate prices which are higher than those in April.

The heavy industry is already decapitalized as a result of the high price of electricity and won't survive a 35 per cent hike in the price of natural has. Alternative fuels are no solution says the Federation, warning about possible protests.

Earlier on Monday it emerged that Prime Minister will meet with representatives of employer organizations on May 5 to discuss the prices of natural gas and electricity and respective measures.

Deputy Prime Ministers Assen Vassilev and Kornelia Ninova will also attend the meeting.
