Bulgaria's central government debt amounted to 31,042.1 million leva as at the end of March 2022, decreasing by 1,474 million leva compared with end-February 2022, the Finance Ministry reported here on Tuesday.
The decrease resulted mainly from the repayment of an issue of seven-year Eurobonds which matured on March 26. The internal debt at end-March 2022 was 9,879 million leva, and the external debt stood at 21,163 million leva.
By the end of March 2022, the central government debt was 21.1% of Bulgaria's gross domestic product, GDP (internal debt: 6.7%, external debt: 14.4%).
Bonds issued on international capital markets accounted for the largest share (49.1%) of the debt, followed by securities issued on the domestic market (30.6%) and government loans (20.3%).
As at the end of March 2022, Bulgaria's government debt was 29,755 million leva (20.2% of GDP). The internal government debt was 9,637 million leva, and the external government debt was 20,118 million leva.
