The market price index, which reflects wholesale food prices, this week dropped by 1.06% to 2.174 points, making this the second consecutive week of the index going down. The previous instance of a drop in the index was in October 2021, when it reached about 1.630 points, the Commodity Exchange and Wholesale Markets State Commission reported Sunday.

The base level of the index of 1.000 points was set in 2005.

The price of hothouse tomatoes dropped by 8.5% reaching BGN 3.88 per kg, the price of hothouse cucumbers went down by 17.6% reaching BGN 2.57 per kg. Cabbage was 9.2% cheaper, selling at BGN 1.08 per kg. The prices of potatoes and leaf vegetables on the other hand increased by 6.2% (BGN 1.03 per kg) and 1.2% (BGN 0.85 per item) respectively.

Apples sold for BGN 1.39 per kg. Lemons were 7.5% more expensive (BGN 2.00 per kg). Strawberries were 10.00% cheaper (BGN 5.39 per kg).

The wholesale price of white brined cheese from cow's milk went up by 1.7% to BGN 9.60 per kg. More expensive were also Vitosha yellow kashkaval cheese (+ 0.5% to BGN 15.14 per kg), sunflower oil (+ 2.4% to BGN 5.21 per litre), chicken (+ 3.0% to BGN 5.85 per kg), and sugar (+ 1.0% to BGN 2.10 per kg).

Conversely, cheaper products included butter from cow's milk (- 2.6% to BGN 2.58 per 125-gram pack), grade 500 flour (- 4.3% to BGN 1.35 per kg), and rice (- 0.4% to BGN 2.65 per kg).
