site.btaBulgaria's e-Communications Market Reaches BGN 2.8 Bln in 2020

In 2020, the total volume of the electronic communications market in Bulgaria amounts to BGN 2.861 billion, and for the third consecutive year continues its upward trend, with an increase of 6.7% compared to 2019, said Borislav Gutsanov, chairman of the Transport and Communications Committee in Parliament during its Thursday sitting, citing data from a report of the Communications Regulation Commission for 2020.

The meeting was held on the occasion of the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day and focused on the opportunities and challenges before the Bulgarian technology industry. This year’s highlight is digital technologies for the elderly and healthy aging.

As of December 31, 2020, a total of 1,126 enterprises had registered their intention to provide public electronic communications, and 861 of them actually carried out this activity. The share of the total volume of public electronic communications in Bulgaria’s GDP in 2020 amounts to 2.4%.

Andreana Atanasova, Chairperson of the Managing Board of the Alliance of the Technology Industry, noted the contribution of the members of the alliance for 2021, saying that the total income from the main activities of the members exceeds BGN 3 billion, and investments in network and services development are over BGN 600 million. Atanasova added that the contributions to the state budget in the form of corporate tax are in the order of BGN 80 million, and that the Alliance employs over 10,000 people.
