Outgoing Prime Minister Kiril Petkov discussed with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev the possibility of supplying additional quantities of Azeri gas to Bulgaria, beyond the amounts envisaged for the new Greece-Bulgaria interconnector. This was announced by the press centre of the Council of Ministers on Friday. The energy ministers of the two countries will discuss the details of possible new supplies, it became clear during the talks between the Bulgarian Prime Minister and the President of Azerbaijan. Petkov and Aliyev held a bilateral meeting and a working dinner on Thursday.
During his visit to Baku, PM Petkov held a meeting with Azerbaijani business representatives who have trade relations with Bulgarian companies and was familiarised with their current projects. It was also noted that the trade turnover between the two countries could be increased, as there are new opportunities in the export of chemical fertilizers from the Caspian Sea region and in the import of food and essential oil cosmetics from Bulgaria.
The representatives of the Bulgarian-Azerbaijani Chamber of Commerce and Industry thanked Prime Minister Petkov for his support for the appointment of an Honorary Consul of Bulgaria to boost the relations between companies in the two countries.
On Friday, Petkov wrote on his official Facebook account that he and President Aliyev had discussed a range of common economic opportunities in the fields of agriculture, chemical fertilisers, construction, defence and information technology.
"Bulgaria will soon open an honorary consulate in Azerbaijan. It is time the long-standing friendship between our two countries became a real bridge for strategic economic projects and more significant energy diversification," Petkov wrote.
Kiril Petkov is on a two-day visit to Azerbaijan on July 21 and 22.
