A team from Skytrax, the UK-based consultancy firm which runs an airline and airport review and ranking site, visited Sofia Airport last week for an initial audit of its operations, the airport's PR department said.
The Skytrax experts thoroughly examined the entire passenger experience, from the airport's transport connectivity, flight check-in and baggage handling, security checks, border and customs control, food and shopping areas, and the organization of arrival and departure processes, including staff attitude, hygiene and the quality of wireless connectivity, among others. The results will be presented in an official report in the coming weeks, the airport said.
Following the audit, Sofia Airport will plan and implement dozens of steps - both infrastructure, process and technology-related - to improve passenger comfort and the efficiency of operations.
In June, Sofia Airport announced its strategic goal of becoming a 5-star regional airport by 2028, the first step being the completed Skytrax audit. Operator SOF Connect's strategy for the next five years addresses four key areas: Customer Experience, Efficiency, Environment and Economic and Social Contribution, with a detailed timeline and specific steps to achieve each goal.
