Czech companies presented their defence and security products and services to Bulgarian government institutions, associations and businesses at the Czech Embassy in Sofia on Wednesday. The presentation was attended by Czech Ambassador Lukas Kaucky and Bulgaria's Deputy Chief of Defence Lt. Gen. Tsanko Stoikov.

Ambassador Kaucky said that during the transition of the 1990s the defence industry was transformed. "We began to make heavy machinery for the armed forces. Czech companies have vast experience in manufacturing various military products owing to the development of science in our country," he said, adding that Czech companies are ready to meet their obligations to Bulgarian clients.

Michal Rendla, Deputy Director of the Industrial Cooperation Division at the Czech Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces, said almost 90% of the Czech defence industry output is exported. "For over a 100 years we have been offering products which are used in battle," Rendla said. "Our focus now is new technology. There are supersonic weapons and weapons that can be used in space."

According to Rendla, Czechia's priorities have to do with the new challenges. He said: "The war in Ukraine changed the global security situation. We will continue to work with our allies in NATO. This is the focus of our efforts. We already have an example of successful cooperation between Czech and Bulgarian companies."
