The volume of retail trade in the European Union decreased by 0.2% in August compared to July, while in the same period in the Eurozone this indicator went down by 0.3% . In July, again on a monthly basis, the volume of retail trade decreased in both the EU and the Eurozone, by 0.2% and 0.4% respectively, indicated the latest seasonally and calendar adjusted data published Thursday by the European statistical agency Eurostat.
In August, compared to the same month a year earlier, calendar-adjusted data on the volume of retail sales showed a decrease by 1.3% in the EU and by 2% in the Eurozone.
In Bulgaria, the volume of retail trade in August, compared to July, increased 1%, according to Eurostat's data. In July, domestic retail trade recorded a minimal growth in its volume - by 0.1%, compared to June.
On an annual basis in August, the volume of Bulgarian retail trade increased by 2.1%. Thus, Bulgaria ranks 7th among the EU countries with the largest growth in retail trade volume.
The volume of retail sales of food, beverages and tobacco products in Bulgaria in August compared to July increased by 3.2%, according to the estimates of Eurostat. Sales of non-food goods in the country increased by 0.5%, and motor fuels sales increased by 1.1%.
