In 2022, most owners of seaside campsites in Bulgaria registered more tourists and higher revenues from overnight stays, compared to 2021, shows data of the Bulgarian Campsites Association (BCA).

Most inland campsites also reported that the 2022 summer season was more profitable than the 2021 season. Inland campsites in Bulgaria are more than the seaside campsites in the country and are very different in type, capacity, and location. Some of them are mostly visited by foreign tourists, while others are preferred by many Bulgarians.

In 2022, most tourists who chose to spend their holidays in seaside campsites are Bulgarians, BCA reported. German tourists represent the second highest number of tourists, followed by tourists from Czechia, Romania and Poland.

In 2022, inland campsites in Bulgaria were mostly visited by German and Bulgarian tourists. Other frequent visitors were tourists from Belgium, Romania, France, the UK, and Italy.

2021 was a record year in terms of number of tourists visiting Bulgarian campsites, BCA recalled. Prior to the start of the 2022 season, there were doubts as to whether the season would be a successful one due to the consequences of the war in Ukraine and high fuel prices, but the results allayed these fears, BCA also said.
