site.btaRadev Discusses Renewable Energy Options with University Rectors

Bulgarian President Rumen Radev on Sunday held a meeting with Rectors Ivaylo Koprev of the Sofia University of Mining and Geology and Ivan Kralov of the Sofia Technical University. They focused on the opportunities for the production and storage of energy from renewable sources in this country.

Caretaker Energy Minister Rossen Hristov and Deputy Energy Minister Elenko Bozhkov took part in the meeting.

"Bulgaria's ambitions to establish itself as an energy centre in the region must be built, among other things, on the implementation of innovative and environment-friendly technologies," the head of State said.

In his words, this country possesses all natural resources that are required for environment-friendly energy production and storage, and a long-term vision and timely decisions are needed in this field.

Radev stressed that the Maritsa Basin must be retained as an energy hub of Bulgaria by implementing new technologies to make it possible to keep the jobs of those working in the energy complex.

The participants in the meeting were unanimous that Bulgaria can produce and store clean energy at competitive prices and that the State must honour its commitment to ensure the independence of the Bulgarian power industry from external factors. The President expressed his conviction that the leading Bulgarian universities will continue their search for effective solutions in a dialogue with the Energy Ministry. The academic community can rely on the support of the presidential institution in this effort, he emphasized.
