site.btaSofia, Brussels Agree on Euro Coins Production in Bulgaria
Bulgaria and the European Commission have signed a memorandum of understanding in Brussels for production of euro coins, the Bulgarian Finance Ministry and the central bank said Tuesday. The document sets out the practical steps that will allow Bulgaria to produce euro coins when it is admitted to the euro zone. These steps concern the minting of a certain amount of trial coins with the common designs and national design.
The signing of the memorandum is an important step on the road to accession to the euro zone, the Finance Ministry and the central bank say.
The document was signed by European Commission Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis, EU Economy Commissioner Paolo Gentiloni, Eurogroup President Paschal Donohoe and, on the Bulgarian side, by Finance Minister Rossitsa Velkova and Bulgarian National Bank Governor Dimitar Radev.
The Finance Ministry published a strategy for the euro changeover in October and a communication strategy in November.
