site.btaFactory of the Year 2022 Title Goes to Schneider Electric's Smart Factory in Plovdiv

The smart factory for electric components of Schneider Electric Bulgaria in Plovdiv won the Factory of the Year competition, organized by Capital in partnership with Plovdiv Municipality and Trakia Tech. An independent jury selected the winner among six finalists. The smart factory will hold the title until the next edition of the competition in 2023, the winning company said Friday.

The smart factory’s director, Martin Yordanov, said during the award ceremony on Thursday that this year the factory in Plovdiv and their colleagues in Sofia worked hard towards the delivery of sustainability in technology, innovation and energy efficiency. The award is yet another confirmation that by developing people as a significant resource, the company develops innovations and the business sustainably, he noted.

Over 70% of the processes at Schneider Electric are entirely automated, and the team constantly incorporates new technologies. Some 800 people work at the factory at present, and the administrative staff is under 7%.

One of the projects that the company presented during the Factory of the Year competition, is a self-learning quality control with the use of some 20 self-learning cameras that recognize potential defects in a certain product. Machine self-learning is also used in predictive maintenance, which can reduce costs significantly.

The French company has operated in Plovdiv since 2007, when it made an initial investment of EUR 22 million. This year, the company launched an investment project to expand its smart factory by 3,000 sq m and increase the product capacity. The output volume of the company's Bulgarian operation will increase by nearly 30%.
