site.btaBNB: Non-Government Sector Deposits Top BGN 116.4 Bln, Loans Exceed BGN 80.2 Bln in End-December

At the end of December 2022, the deposits of the non-government sector amounted to BGN 116.461 billion (75.4% of GDP), up by 14.3% on an annual basis (compared to 13.4% annual growth in November 2022), the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) said on Wednesday.

The deposits of non-financial corporations totalled BGN 40.2 billion (26% of GDP) at the end of December 2022, up by 26.6% on a year earlier (26.5% annual growth in November 2022). The deposits of financial corporations totalled BGN 4.2 billion (2.7% of GDP) at the end of December 2022, up by 17% year on year (2.3% annual growth in November 2022).

The deposits of households and non-profit institutions serving households (NPISHs) stood at BGN 72.037 billion (46.6% of GDP) at the end of December 2022, up by 8.3% on a year earlier (7.9% annual growth in November 2022).

At the end of December 2022, claims on loans to the non-government sector amounted to BGN 80.219 billion (51.9% of GDP), compared to BGN 80.181 billion (51.9% of GDP) at the end of November 2022. They increased by 12.7% year on year in December 2022 (13.5% annual growth in November 2022).

In December 2022, loans to non-financial corporations increased by 10.4% on annual basis (11.1% annual growth in November 2022) to BGN 41.146 billion (26.6% of GDP) at the end of the month.

Loans to households and NPISHs stood at BGN 33.127 billion (21.4% of GDP) at the end of December 2022. They increased by 14.6% on an annual basis (15.5% annual growth in November 2022). At the end of December 2022, loans for home purchases were BGN 16.5 billion, up by 17.8% on an annual basis. Consumer loans totalled BGN 15.0 billion, up by 12.4% on a year earlier.

On an annual basis, other loans increased by 5.3% to BGN 403.7 million at the end of December. In December 2022, loans to sole proprietorships and partnerships without legal status increased annually by 10.8%, reaching BGN 425 million.

Loans granted to financial corporations totalled BGN 5.946 billion at the end of December 2022 (3.8% of GDP), up by 19.7% on a year earlier.
