On the first day of the campaign for the October 2 snap general elections, the State Agency for Child Protection Friday called for respecting the rights of children against involvement in political activity. It urges the news media to be responsible when they cover events with the participation of children.

"The Bulgarian legislation clearly says that each child has a right to protection against involvement in political, religious and trade union activities but it is only our responsibility as society that will put the interests of children above all. Often times children, due to their inexperience and aspiration to copy adult behaviors, misunderstand the political ideas and it is our responsibility to keep them away from the contest of the political forces and not to use them for sending political messages," said the Child Protection Agency Chairm Eleonora Lilova.
