Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev and the State Agency for National Security (SANS) chairperson Plamen Tonchev signed a joint directive regulating the actions of the institutions to guarantee the citizens' political rights, ensure a prompt and adequate response to crimes related to the electoral process, and the lawful conduct of the October 2 parliamentary elections. The directive also sets up a National Inter-agency Unit that will coordinate the activities of the prosecution service and SANS to ensure effective interaction between the institutions during the election campaign, on the election day itself and until the official announcement of the final election results by the Central Election Commission.

The establishment of the National Interagency Unit is regulated in the Electoral Code, according to which "the Prosecutor General and the Minister of Interior shall establish joint staffs (teams) for operational interaction in the fight against crimes related to the election process".

In order to guarantee the political rights of the people and to conduct the election process in accordance with the law, a special unit with the Supreme Cassation Prosecution Office will be responsible for analyzing all reported electoral violations. People and organizations can submit reports to the email addresses of the relevant prosecution offices in the country, published on the website of the prosecution service.
