site.bta19 Pre-trial Proceedings for Electoral Offences Launched in September

Since the beginning of the election campaign on September 2 until today, the Prosecutor's Office has initiated 19 pre-trial proceedings and 118 files for crimes against the political rights of citizens, 48 of which were dismissed due to the lack of sufficient evidence, and one person has been indicted, the prosecuting magistracy reported on Friday.

There are nine pre-trial proceedings in Sofia, two in Plovdiv, five in Varna, two in Veliko Tarnovo and one in Burgas. Regional inter-agency units have been established in each region of the country to coordinate the fight against crimes against the political rights of citizens.

In view of the elections, the Prosecutor's Office and the State Agency for National Security established a national interagency unit which will coordinate the activities of the two institutions to ensure effective interaction during the election campaign, on the election day itself and until the official announcement by the Central Election Commission of the final results.
