site.btaTeach For Bulgaria Foundation: Competition for Teaching Positions Grows Steadily
The number of candidates for a teaching position has nearly doubled in the last two years, including in small settlements and schools with a more challenging context, the Teach For Bulgaria Foundation found in a study of schools across the country.
Gergana Efremova, the Foundation's senior expert on Strategic Partnerships, said: "The pandemic and insecurity in many economic sectors have prompted more people with teaching qualifications to opt for a teaching job. This competition, however, is not fully positive because it makes the selection process even more difficult for principals, who have to choose the best candidates for work in the context of contemporary education."
"Many principals tell us that some candidates who seem to check the boxes for a teaching position do not have the right attitude, motivation and training, which are key to a teacher's success and value added for students," Efremova said.
A growing number of school principals across the country are seeking partnership with the Teach For Bulgaria Foundation precisely for the strict pre-selection and modern training of participants in its A New Way to Teaching Program.
All state-owned and municipal schools in Bulgaria can apply for pre-selected and trained Program alumni, who can start work in September 2022. Applications can be made at https://zaednovchas.bg/schools/. ZH/DD
