Adventurer and Shell in Love are the big winners of the 26th Golden Rhyton Bulgarian Documentary and Animation Film Festival, the Bulgarian National Film Centre said on Wednesday.

The jury, chaired by Adela Peeva and members Irina Ivanova and Yavor Kalachev, presented the award for a documentary film to the Adventurer for the depth and sensitivity with which it considers the place and role of individual revolt against the status quo in different political conditions. The directors are Anna Petkova, who passed away in early 2022, and Konstantin Petrov. Hristo Kovachev is the cameraman and Boris Chakarov the composer. Petkova's latest film traces the fate of dissident Grigor Simov, founder of the Independent Society for the Protection of Human Rights - an anti-communist organization, who lives in a depopulated village near the Bulgarian-Serbian border.

Golden Rhyton for Best Animated Film went to Shell in Love, produced by Miramar Film, for the original eclectic form and the skillful mastery of various means of expression - from volumetric to 2D animation. Svilen Dimitrov is the director, screenwriter, and animator of the film. Kaloyan Nikolov is the cameraman, and Petko Manchev the composer.

The two films that won the grand prizes will be screened at the formal closing of the festival on Wednesday at the Cinema House in Sofia.
