The sixty-first edition of March Music Days, one of the most renowned festivals of classical music in our country, opened Friday night in the Bulgarian Danubean city of Ruse. The programme for the opening night featured a concert of the Ruse Philharmonic under the baton of maestro Emil Tabakov with the participation of the famous pianist Simon Trpcheski of North Macedonia.

Among the official guests were President Rumen Radev and National Assembly Chair Nikola Minchev.

"These sixty-one editions give our city energy that can be found nowhere else in the country,” said Ruse Mayor Pencho Minkov. He added that countless Bulgarian and world artists have performed on the festival’s stage, and called March Music Days “a cultural emblem”.

During the opening ceremony, the Union of Bulgarian Musicians and Dancers presented the longtime director of March Music Days, Iva Chavdarova, the Union’s most prestigious award, The Golden Lyre, for her outstanding contribution to the development of Bulgarian musical culture.

Among the official guests at the opening were also the directors general of the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA), Kiril Valchev, and of the Bulgarian National Radio Milen Mitev.

March Music Days will be on until March 27. It will bring to the stage over 600 performers from Bulgaria and other countries, seven orchestral programs, 11 ensemble concerts, an opera performance and two exhibitions.

The festival is organized by the Ruse City Hall with the support of the Culture Ministry. BTA is among the media partners.
