Bulgarian soprano Krassimira Stoyanova is in the title role in the new production of Verdi’s Aida performed at the Semperoper Dresden, ARTE TV said. The production is directed by Katharina Thalbach, Christian Thielemann is the conductor, and Ezio Toffolutti is the set designer.
Among the performers are Francesco Meli as Radames and Georg Zeppenfeld as Ramfis.
The new production premiered on March 5. The next performances this month are scheduled for March 17 and 20.
Krassimira Stoyanova is one of the leading sopranos of our time, highly acclaimed by press and public alike. She was born in Bulgaria where she studied violin at the Coservatory and singing and violin at the Plovdiv Music Academy. She made her professional debut in 1995 at the Sofia National Opera House, according to her official biography.
Stoyanova has had a close relationship with the Vienna State Opera since 1998, where she has performed Rachel/La Juive (new production with TV production), Contessa/ Le nozze di Figaro, Micaela/ Carmen, Antonia/ Les contes d’Hoffmann, Liù/ Turandot, Nedda/ I Pagliacci, Mimi/ La Bohème, and Violetta/ La Traviata, among others.
From there, her international career developed rapidly and has taken her to the world’s leading opera houses, including the Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera House Covent Garden London, Teatro alla Scala di Milano, the Bastille Paris, and the state operas of Munich, Hamburg, Berlin, Dresden, and Zürich. She has performed at Rome’s Teatro dell’ Opera, at the Liceu in Barcelona, at the Nederlands Opera in Amsterdam, in Bilbao, Teatro Colon Buenos Aires, and at the New Israeli Opera Tel Aviv. In 2003, the artist made her debut at the Salzburg Festival where she has been a regular guest since then.
Stoyanova's repertoire covers a wide variety of roles, ranging from Belcanto operas, the great Verdi and Puccini heroines, Richard Strauss to the Slavic repertoire.
She is one of the most sought-after singers on the concert stage. Highlights of her concert work include Beethoven’s 9th Symphony at the Ravenna Festival under the baton of Riccardo Muti, with Sir Colin Davis at the St. Paul’s Cathedral in London, with Mariss Jansons at the Vatican in Rome, with Christian Thielemann and the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra. Her concert repertoire includes the Messa da Requiem by Verdi, Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis, Four Last Songs by R. Strauss, Dvorak’s Requiem and Stabat Mater, among others.
In 2009, Stoyanova was awarded the prestigious title Kammersängerin der Wiener Staatsoper.
