site.btaGovernment to Finance Ruse Opera Repairs with Lv 3.6 Mln
The government will allocate 3.6 million leva for repairs of the Ruse State Opera, which was badly damaged by a fire in July 2020, its new director, Plamen Beykov, told a news conference at the BTA Press Club in the Danubian city of Ruse.
A public procurement procedure for rebuilding the stage and the adjoining structures will open shortly.
Very soon the roof repairs will start and the temporary structure will be replaced.
Beykov said: "When the roof and the stage are repaired, we will be able to resume work as usual."
He commented that the financing will not be enough to repair the whole building. A charity campaign mottoed "I Love Ruse Opera" will be launched in early May to engage the local community.
Beykov commented that the Ruse Opera owes slightly over 4.1 million leva - a debt which cannot be written off. The team will work to stop it from increasing further, he said.
The new director introduced his team, saying that he will seek to elevate the aesthetic level of the Opera's productions.
"We have a very good artistic team and will keep building on," said Beykov.
