site.btaExhibition Showcases Works by Warhol, Rupert Smith, Robert Mars, Jim Dine

A Pop Art exhibition featuring some of the world famous artists, including Andy Warhol, Rupert Smith, Jim Dine and Robert Mars is on at Vivacom Art Hall Oborishte 5 from March 17 to April 2 with the exclusive participation of Bulgaria's Evgeni Ionov.

Warhol's Marilyn Monroe silkscreen prints and Robert Mars' Coca-Cola Popforms are on display.

The pop art movement emerged in Britain in the mid-1950s and the United States in the late 1950s. It is less about art than about the perceptions, trends and events leading to it. Pop art often borrows images and themes from mass culture, and commercials, comics, product labels and logos feature prominently.

Andy Warhol's name has become synonymous with American pop art. He is famous for his blotted-ink drawings and paintings of iconic American objects such as dollar bills, food, women's shoes and celebrities including Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, Elizabeth Taylor and Liza Minnelli. The artist achieved cult status even before his unexpected death in 1987.

The most prestigious art galleries showcase Warhol's prints, paintings and video art, and they are more in demand by collectors than ever. In the last 20 years, Warhol has been the second most actively traded artist in the world after Picasso.

Contemporary visual artist Robert Mars' work is inspired by Americana, the American pop culture of the 1960s. He uses mixed-media collages, with industrial design, graphic design, architecture and vintage neon all playing important roles in his work. His works have been exhibited in Tokyo, New York, Seattle, Los Angeles, Boston, Atlanta and London, among others.

Jim Dine is a contemporary American artist whose work spans over sixty years. His oeuvre includes painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture and photography. His early works encompassed assemblage and happenings, while in recent years his poetry output, both in publications and readings, has increased.
