site.btaPolish Film "Sonata" Wins Sofia City of Film Award

Bartosz Blaschke's Sonata (Poland) won the Sofia City of Film Award of the Sofia Film Fest International Festival, Art Fest said. The best film in the international competition for first and second films wins 7,000 euro provided by Sofia Municipality. The same film won the Audience Award at a ceremony held on March 19.

The 26th Sofa Film Fest attracted 165 entries from 56 countries. More than 70 foreign guests arrived from 19 countries.

Best Director Award: Andrey M. Paunov, January (Bulgaria/Portugal/Luxembourg)

Special Mention: Arvand Dashtaray, The Absent Director (Iran)

Best Bulgarian Short Film Award: 9,500 Euro (1,500 euro cash prize and 8, 000 euro in post-production services) Orlin Menkadzhiev's Game

Best Balkan Film Award: Antoneta Alamat Kusijanovic's Murina (Croatia/Brazil/United States/Slovenia)

Special Mention: Alina Grigore's Blue Moon (Romania)

Best Documentary Award: Emanuel Licha's Zo Reken (Canada)

Special Mention: Elitsa Georgieva's Our Quiet Place (France/Bulgaria)

Best Bulgarian Feature Film Award: Martin Makariev's In the Heart of the Machine (Bulgaria)

FIPRESCI Award: Mihai Sofronea's The Windseeker (Romania/Bulgaria/Serbia)

Bulgarian Guild of Film Critics Award: Dragomir Sholev's Fishbone (Bulgaria)

Young Jury Award for Best Film in the International Competition: Max Walker-Silverman's A Love Song

Bulgarian directors Angel Wagenstein and Iglika Trifonova received Sofia Awards for their contribution to the art of cinema.
