As part of the ongoing The March of Books campaign, Education and Science Minister Nikolay Denkov will read out an excerpt from his favourite children's book at Nadezhda Kindergarten in Sofia on April 5, said the campaign's organizer, the Bulgarian Book Association. Also to support the national campaign through public reading to children are Vice President Iliana Iotova, who is patron of the event, National Assembly Chair Nikola Minchev and his deputies Kristian Vigenin and Rositsa Kirova, parliamentary Education and Science Committee Chair Irena Anastassova, and European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth Mariya Gabriel, among others.
The 11th edition of the campaign was launched on April 2, International Children's Book Day, and will be on until April 23, World Book and Copyright Day. It aims to increase people's interest in books and reading, with a focus on literacy among adolescents.
The campaign will also be backed by key journalists from Bulgarian media and mayors. The list of participants is still growing as many wish to participate by reading excerpts from their favourite books in person or online to children in schools and kindergartens.
The March of Books national campaign is organized in partnership with Sofia Municipality and with the cooperation of Regional Education Management - Sofia City. The Bulgarian Book Association launches the campaign on April 2 every year, reaching thousands of children across Bulgaria and abroad. Many of the participating schools in kindergartens have subsequently opened new library units or expanded the existing ones' collection.
