site.btaBulgaria's Institute of Archaeology Participates in International Exhibition in Schallaburg Castle, Lower Austria
The National Archaeological Institute with Museum at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (NAIM-BAS) is taking part in the international exhibition Mounted Nomads in Europe, on display in the Schallaburg Castle Exhibition Centre in Lower Austria, the Institute said on its website on Monday.
This is the first large-scale comparative exhibition on the political and cultural impact of the Huns, Avars, Bulgarians, and Hungarians on early medieval Europe. Nomadic peoples arrived in Europe during the early medieval ages passing through the vast steppes of Eurasia. They conquered new territories and some peoples founded their states. Mounted nomads, often perceived as warriors and conquerors, are presented from a completely different point of view by showing their way of life through numerous exhibits.
The exhibition was opened by the governor of Lower Austria, Johanna Mikl-Leitner, the mayor of St. Poelten, Matthias Stadler, and other officials.
NAIM-BAS participates with pieces from its permanent exhibition, which present Danube Bulgaria from the seventh to the ninth century. Among the exhibits are the bronze rosette (IX century) from Pliska, the gold medallion of Bulgarian Khan Omurtag (814-831) discovered in Veliko Tarnovo, and a residential building on the western slope of Tsarevets hill.
The exhibition will be on display until November 6, 2022.
