Prof. Johannes Reinhart received the Honoris Causa doctorate from the Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski Rector Prof. Anastas Gerdjikov during a ceremony at the University. Prof. Reinhart was nominated for the honorary degree by the Faculty of Slavic Studies for his facilitating the student and professor exchange process at the Sofia University, the school’s press centre reported on Tuesday.

Prof. Gergana Dacheva, vice-dean of the Faculty of Slavic Studies, spoke about Prof. Reinhart’s academic achievements. He is one of the most prominent researchers in the field of paleoslavistics, a discoverer of then unknown Slavonic texts, and distinguished etymologist.

He is among the few scholars to be equally familiar with the medieval East Slavic and South Slavic manuscript traditions, Cyrillic and Glagolitic manuscript heritage, Prof. Dacheva said. Prof. Reinhart has been teaching Old Church Slavonic at the University of Vienna.
