site.btaLight Festival to Turn Sofia into Open Art Gallery

The Lunar Festival of Lights will be held here for the first time between May 6 and 9. Thirteen art pieces made of light will turn the city into an open art gallery, the organizers said.

On each day of the event, between 8.30 pm and midnight, Sofianites will be able to enjoy art from Australia, Bulgaria, India, Spain, France, and Sweden. The displays will include two videos, four static projections, six light installations, and an interactive light painting atelier.

The first venue will be the National Gallery Kvadrat 500. The organizers will use the building’s neoclassical facade to project a video mapping show entitled “Imagine”: a story about the voices that live in all of us and determine the decisions we make.

The National Library facade will provide a 'canvas' for a show called “Wildlife Depends on our Habits”. Audiences will enjoy the diversity of our planet exemplified by some of its most beautiful and extraordinary animals.

The festival's signature floating light installation “Moon Night” will be on view in the fountain in front of the National Theatre.

Visitors will be challenged to unleash their own imagination in “Atelier Light Painting” by sharing their ideas with professional artists. They in turn will paint those ideas with light, which the audience can receive on their smartphones.

A sculpture called “Infinitum”, combining wood and light, will be located in Bulgaria Square. Its spherical shape is meant to represent infinity but also completeness.

The light installation “Glowing Heart” will be projected on the facade of the National Palace of Culture. By its changing colours the artwork will evoke a variety of emotions viewers and invite them to connect with their loved ones.
