The Sofia Philharmonic will play with two of the most talented musicians. Clarinettist Sabine Meyer and conductor Nicolo Foron will perform in Bulgaria Concert Hall in Sofia on April 28, said the organizers.

The audience will hear Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto in A major, the Coriolan Overture by Beethoven, and Haydn’s Symphony No. 101 in D major, popularly known as The Clock.

Sabine Meyer is a Brahms Prize laureate and an eight-time winner of the Echo Klassic Prize. In 2010, the French Government honoured her with the Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres decoration. Her talent helped raise the clarinet’s status among music lovers, as this musical instrument was not as widely recognized before.

Born in Crailsheim, Germany, Meyer studied in Stuttgart and Hannover before starting her career as a member of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. In 1982 she became the first woman to join the Berlin Philharmonic after she received a personal invitation from Herbert von Karajan. Less than a year later she had to leave, as her popularity as a solo performer kept growing. Over the last nearly 25 years Meyer has toured around the world, playing the most prestigious concert venues in Europe, Africa, Israel, Australia, Japan, and the Americas.

Nicolo Umberto Foron is the principal assistant conductor of the Paris-based Ensemble Intercontemporain. Despite his young age (born in 1998), Foron has already worked with the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, Het Residentie Orkest, Sinfonia Rotterdam, NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra, and London Symphony Orchestra.
