This year’s Europe Day will be marked in Sofia with a video mapping show on the façade of the Square 500 Gallery, said the Sofia Bureau of the European Parliament Monday. Entitled Imagine, the show will start at 20:30 hrs on May 6 and is part of the LUNAR Festival of Lights.
In the European Year of Youth, the festival sheds light on key European values and send a message for peace in Europe.
The Festival of Lights will be held for the first time in Sofia, transforming the city into a huge open air art gallery, say the organizers. It will be held on more than 10 locations in the central part of the capital. Artists from Bulgaria, Australia, Germany, India, France and Sweden will tell stories, provoke the imagination and surprise the audience through their fascinating light art. The light shows will be free for the audiences and will take place between 20:30 and midnight on the four festival nights.
The programme includes two video and four projections on buildings, as well as six light installations and an interactive workshop for light art.
On the opening night, Imagine will tell an exciting story about the voices that live in each of us and predetermine the decisions people make in life. The story takes us on a journey between doubt and faith, on a way to a better future. Another video mapping show, Wildlife Depends on Our Habits, on the façade of the National Library will focus the audience’s attention on the endangered species and the impact of every human routine on their survival.
In a static projection on Hyatt Regency Sofia, four artists (Nick Azidis of Australia, MP-STUDIO of Bulgaria, Knownsense Studios of India and Thierry Noir of France) will turn the hotel façade into a gate to various cultures and pay tribute to some of the most special elements and symbols that inspire their lives. The show celebrates the diversity of cultures, history, traditions, customs and points of view, which make the world exciting and unique.
The 3-km route of LUNAR will take the audience to Bulgaria Square to see the remarkable figures of Swedish artist Philip Jakobsson. Made of wood and light, they symbolize eternity and infinity.
The biggest façade of the show will be the NDK convention centre which will show the works of three artists selected after a competition with the themes eMotions, eXplore and eFuture. The unifying light projection incorporates the main messages of the three themes to create an unforgettable experience for the viewers.
LUNAR is organized with the support of European Parliament in Bulgaria, Ministry of Culture and Sofia Municipality.
