site.btaUPDATED Actress Tzvetana Maneva to Be Awarded Askeer for Lifetime Achievement

Tzvetana Maneva will receive the Askeer Lifetime Achievement Award for her contribution to theatre, the A’Askeer Foundation told BTA on Tuesday. The award ceremony will take place at Theatre Bulgarian Army on May 24.

In the BTA Press Club where the A’Askeer Foundation announced the award, Tzvetana Maneva reminisced about all the major events in her life that led her to this moment, saying that she was extremely fortunate with her professional and artistic life. She spoke about having lived through two political systems: the communist regime and modern democracy. “I think I can withstand a third system, if humanity’s physical condition could withstand a challenge such as our past and our current democracy.”

Asked how she feels about her lifetime achievement award, the actress commented, “I have never received a rising star award. We should accept the fact that I am getting one for a setting star now.”

Maneva was positive that nothing could be as inspiring as theatre. She called for the Bulgarian people to consider the stage a temple of creativity, saying that such a temple is needed today when people are acting upon hatred so close to this country.

President of the A’Askeer Foundation Georgi Karkelanov said that the award ceremony which coincides with the Day of Slavonic Alphabet on May 24 will be dedicated to Bulgarian Enlightenment. Actors will read passages from Bulgarian 19th century plays The Phoney Civilization and Mihal the Mouse-Eater.

BTA will publish a special issue of its LIK magazine dedicated to the Askeer Award’s 30th anniversary.
