site.btaChiprovtsi Carpet Festival Opens

The seventh edition of the Festival of the Chiprovtsi Carpet opened in the northwestern town of Chiprovtsi on Saturday after a two-year break.

Displayed in tents in the square are the eponymous carpets, looms on which weavers show the carpets are made, wool harvesting spinning and dyeing.

Over 60 artisans from Bulgaria and neighbouring Serbia are showing their works. 
The tradition of carpet-making in Chiprovtsi has been in UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity since 2014.

A two day-conference on the origin and the history of the Chiprovtsi carper will be held together with two photo exhibitions.

Among the visitors are MPs and people from all over the country.
