site.btaPrague Exhibition Presents Some of Most Valuable Bulgarian Medieval Manuscripts
The Bulgarian Cultural Institute in Prague, the State Cultural Institute and the Representation of the European Commission in Pardubice present the exhibition "Light of the Letters", said the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in Prague.
The exhibition was opened on Tuesday at the tourist information centre in the city and will last until May 31. It shows the most valuable decorated Bulgarian medieval manuscripts from the period between the 10th and 18th century.
The spread of Christianity in territories inhabited by many different ethnic groups after the Migration Period (300-700 AD) favored the preservation of the identity of the Slavs by creating an alphabet for their own language. The survival and preservation of the Slavic alphabet is associated with Bulgaria, which plays the role of "cradle" of the spiritual culture of the Slavic peoples. It is precisely these circumstances, as well as the contributing nature of the exhibition, that continue to arouse Czechia's great interest.
The exhibition is part of the programme of the 11th Multicultural Week Festival, which features 18 countries.
