The Cyrillo-Methodian Research Center (CMRC) at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS), the Municipality of Thessaloniki, and the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki are organizing a series of events to be held in Greece’s second biggest city between May 4 and 11 to mark the Day of the holy brothers Cyril and Methodius, BAS posted on their website. The two Thessaloniki-born scholars are celebrated across the Slavonic world for having devised the Glagolitic alphabet back in the 9th century AD: the oldest known Slavonic alphabet.

The programme includes a joint exhibition of 30 canvases by Bulgarian and Greek artists depicting the lives and work of the Seven Apostles of Bulgarian Orthodox Church: Cyril and Methodius, and their students Kliment, Naum, Gorazd, Sava, and Angelariy. The CMRC will participate in an international academic forum, which will also see attendance from German, Greek, Italian, and Serbian scholars.
