Art installations will transform the facades of the Krasno Selo Cultural Centre and the French Institute in Sofia to mark Europe Day on Monday. The two buildings will play the role of canvases for the visual installations Pure OKI and Pure/Ukraine, created by Bulgarian-French artist Christian Bakalov, said the organizers.

The Pure/Ukraine piece on the French Institute facade will feature the colours of the Ukrainian and French flags to express sympathy for the Ukrainian people whose country is being ravaged by war. Pure/Ukraine is meant to symbolize hope for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

Pure OKI was inspired by the Krasno Selo Cultural Centre's recognizable architecture. The piece is constructed with multicoloured ribbons whose waving in the wind will represent everyone around the world being able to vibrate as one being, no matter their culture, race, religion, social status, or country of origin. Sofianites can see the kinetic sculpture by the end of the summer.

On May 13 and 14 the Krasno Selo Cultural Centre will stage Bakalov's Pure (youth), performed by junior high school students. The play is a part of this year's Antistatic Festival for Contemporary Dance and Performance programme.

Christian Bakalov's installations have been viewed in cities across Europe and as far as Chile and the United States.
