site.btaTargovishte to Host Mountain Bike Orienteering World Cup Event

The municipalities of Targovishte, Popovo and Razgrad in Northeastern Bulgaria host the Mountain Bike Orienteering World Cup, round 3, World Masters MTB Orienteering Championships and U23 World MTB Orienteering Championships in September 15-18, the Targovishte-based Variant 5 Orienteering Club, which is one of the organizers of the event, said.

The championships are organized under the authority of the International Orienteering Federation (IOF) by the Bulgarian Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Bulgarian Orienteering Federation, the Variant 5 Orienteering Club, and the three municipalities hosting the event.

Riders from 27 countries, including World Cup and world ranking leaders Camilla Sogaard of Denmark and Krystof Bogar of the Check Republic, will take part in event.

Bulgaria will be represented by six men and six women. The most prominent name in the Bulgarian team is that of two-time ski orienteering world championship Stanimir Belomazhev.

The official opening ceremony of the championships starts at 6 pm on September 15 in front of the building of the Targovishte Town Hall.

The event is one of the three most important races in bike orienteering in the world, Chairman of the Variant 5 Orienteering Club Diam Bonev said.
