The Bulgarian-German theatre production "37 Matches" will stage three performances in Sofia on December 6, 7 and 9 at the centre for contemporary arts Toplocentrala, the organizers said.

The performance will be in Bulgarian, German and English, with Bulgarian subtitles.

"37 Matches" is a play that straddles the edge of the crime story genre. It is also a play about social inequalities in Western societies, which exacerbate and influence relations between people more and more intensively. The title is a reference to Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Match Girl, the team said.

The play centres around the life of Elena, a caregiver, who is heading to her next client.  Everything seems as usual, even better than. The agency offers good conditions, the house is nice, the family seems kind. However, she starts feeling pressured from all sides. Her own family needs the money she earns in Germany, and the clients are proving to be less than trouble-free, the event summary reads.

The show stars Snezhina Petrova, Manuela Sarkisyan, Veronique Kinnen/Nevena Kaludova, Nathan Cooper. A special human-sized doll made by Antje Topfer - a German artist in the field of puppet theater - is a key character in the play.

The project was created with the participation of 36 Monkeys (Sofia), TARTproduktion (Stuttgart) and Fitz! (Stuttgart) and Theatre National (Luxembourg).

In 2023 "37 Matches" will also be staged in Stuttgart and Luxembourg.
