site.btaUPDATED Six New Applications Approved for Inclusion in National Representative List of Bulgarian Intangible Cultural Heritage

Six activities and skills were included in the National Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage, Living Human Treasures - Bulgaria 2022. The Culture Ministry will support each addition with BGN 2,000. The certificates and diplomas for inclusion in the List were conferred on Monday by Deputy Culture Minister Borislava Taneva.

Sixteen nominations were shortlisted at the local level. The ten candidates which did not make it to the List can apply again, BTA learned from the Culture Ministry.

The new entries:

Knowledge and skills related to traditional crafts: The knitting of fishing nets, a traditional craft in the village of Koshava, Vidin Region (Northwestern Bulgaria), with Ventsislav Dionisov Nikolov as the individual winner; and Hristo Marinov, a master mutafchia (maker of goat's-hair rugs, bags, etc.) in the Etar Open-Air Ethnographic Museum near Gabrovo (Central Bulgaria).

Knowledge and customs related to nature and the universe: Wine production in Pleven Region, represented by the Pleven Institute of Viticulture and Enology, the Villa Grivitsa winery, the Mizia winery and the Mizia Folk Ensemble.

Performing arts: The bagpipers of Altan Kalofer at the Hristo Botev - 1869 Community Centre in Kalofer (Central Bulgaria).

Social practices, rituals and festive events: Bridal henna in the village of Veselina, Razgrad Region (Northeastern Bulgaria), as done by the Turkish folk songs and dances group at the Hristo Botev - 1931 Community Centre; and "obrok", a living practice in the village of Lipnitsa, Botevgrad Municipality (Western Bulgaria), associated with a Christian holiday, and 12 representatives of families who perform the obrok rituals.

Deputy Culture Minister Plamen Slavov received a diploma and the Gold Badge of Honour of the Regional Governor of Burgas for his contribution to the protection, conservation and promotion of Bulgaria's tangible and intangible cultural heritage.
