"Conversations, dialogue are the key to common values," the Director General of the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR), Milen Mitev, said as quoted by the media team, speaking at Wednesday’s opening of the exhibition "Conversations about the war", marking 300 days since the beginning of the military conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

The exhibition at the BNR headquarters will continue until December 30. It features photos of mothers and children who fled the war. The photos were taken during their journey to Bulgaria on buses and trains, as well as at the borders. Others show the everyday life of Ukrainian refugees in Bulgaria.

"What has happened has given us an opportunity to look at many things, to think about human fates, to be compassionate, to lend a hand. The exhibition focuses on conversations about war. We all need more conversations nowadays. We see how our society is getting polarized. One of the main and important roles of the BNR is to give people the opportunity to speak and be heard," said Mitev.

"It took state authorities, institutions too much time to set up the organization related to the issuance of the cards, the creation of checkpoints at the borders to adequately meet the needs," organizer Ioana Terzieva told BTA. During the event at BNR, she also participated in a discussion with publisher, translator and volunteer Manol Peykov and former defence minister Velizar Shalamanov. Among the highlights discussed were measures related to refugees from Ukraine, attempts to integrate them effectively into the labour market and the support provided, BNR reported.

The exhibition is supported by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State, Meridian International Center, BNR and the bulFoto internet photo agency.
