People in Bulgaria's medieval capital Veliko Tarnovo will be treated to an outdoor New Year show in front of the Municipal Government offices, beginning at 10:30 p.m. on December 31.

The rock groups B.T.R. and Mary Boys Band and the Iskra Folk Ensemble will entertain the crowd. Traditional cheese pies with fortune slips in them, wine, fruit and sweets will be available to all, the municipal press office said on Friday.

A short blessing ritual will begin 10 minutes before midnight. Town Mayor Daniel Panov will extend New Year greetings to the audience.

A magnificent "Sound and Light Show" will be staged in the town on January 1 at 6 p.m.

Bulgaria's most visited historical landmark, the Tsarevets Fortress in Veliko Tarnovo, will reopen to tourists on January 1.
