The National Film Center (NFC) of Bulgaria declares January month of Bulgarian cinema. The reason behind it is not only January 13 - the official day of Bulgarian cinema, but also the birth centenary of famous Bulgarian film director Vulo Radev (1923-2001), several premieres of long-awaited Bulgarian films and a co-production, the NFC added.
On January 1 Vulo Radev, the director of critically acclaimed films 'Doomed Souls', 'The Peach Thief', 'Tzar and General', 'Adaptation', was born. Radev was a cameraman, scriptwriter and director, and his films were watched by millions. 'The Peach Thief'- a film that remained unsurpassed in terms of visuals and acting, is part of the 'Golden catalogue' in New York's Museum of Modern Art (MoMA).
Vulo Radev's birth centenary will be commemorated on January 9 in Sofia's 'Odeon' cinema with a screening of 'Adaptation's film version in the presence of several actors who participated in it: Eli Skorcheva, Nikolay Sotirov, Lyuben Chatalov, Anya Pencheva, Zheny Pashova, film composer Mitko Shterev and Vasil Naydenov, singer of the eponymous song.
The Bulgarian National Television (BNT) will also take part in the commemoration with a special program of Radev's films.
On January 13, several screenings of short films, animations, and documentaries, awarded at Bulgarian national film festivals, are expected to take place in Sofia, Plovdiv, Burgas and Varna.
